A Peaceful Escape on Horseback Trail Ride in Coconut Creek, FL

This Saturday will mark my fifth time horseback riding—and I’m just as excited as I was the first time. There’s something truly magical about being on a horse, especially on a slow, peaceful trail that winds through the woods. It’s about an hour-long ride, but time seems to slow down in the best way.

We once had the chance to ride at Disney World’s Fort Wilderness, which was a fun experience, but honestly? My heart belongs to Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, FL. The moment you arrive, you’re greeted by kind, respectful handlers who clearly love and care for the horses. It makes a difference—you feel safe, welcome, and connected to the experience from the start.

The ride begins near the main road, where we do have to keep an eye out for a few cars. But once we cross into the woods, everything changes. It’s just you, your horse, and nature. The tall trees stretch overhead, and I often find myself gazing up at the sky, completely in awe. It’s hard to describe the feeling—a mix of calm, freedom, and joy. The stress of everyday life just melts away.

The horses, of course, have their own little personalities and needs—they’ll occasionally stop for a potty break, which always gets a little chuckle from the riders. You also have the option to wear a helmet, which is great for beginners or anyone who prefers the extra protection.

One of the sweetest parts of the experience comes at the end. The handlers take a photo of you and your family while you’re still on horseback—it’s a lovely memory to take home. My husband and I absolutely love doing this together. Sure, you’ll be a little sore afterward (those saddles are no joke!), but it’s so worth it.

After the ride, we like to grab lunch at a nearby restaurant and then head home to our sweet dog for some cuddles and downtime. It’s the perfect way to spend the day.

If you’re looking for something special to do with your family, I highly recommend Tradewinds Park and Stables. They even offer pony rides for the little ones, making it a great outing for all ages. And if you want to extend the adventure, you can visit Butterfly World, located right in the same park.
